Lakeview Heights: Design Concepts

The warm attractiveness of old world towns and villages largely derives from their street patterns and the relaxed connections between family and civic spaces, residential and commercial uses. These patterns were never really designed - they have evolved over centuries, adapting to ongoing change.

Our first design priority is to understand and adapt what is essential in these patterns by creating the conditions that encourage both wide ranging community engagement and a focused sense of local identity.

The second design priority is to tailor our design to accommodate and work with the natural landscape so that the Village amplifies the local beauty that will enhance the overall experience.

The Village will consist of about approximately 500 dwelling units, with commercial space for necessary services such as a medical clinic.

Mixed Use Development

The proposed village will have a range of housing choice. The Village brings residents and those in the wider community together into a vibrant mix of shops, services, entertainment, and high quality open space. Core support services such as early childhood education and a community medical centre will be provided.

The design will create opportunities for interesting and entertaining physical activities, such as the stair climbing campanile, which will foster a healthy and active lifestyle.

Public Space

Public space will solidify civic pride and create an identity to the community. The centre will include a variety of gathering places, coffee houses, a fire hall, and a mix of shops. It will be supplemented with live/work units, allowing the mix of shops and services to flex and change in an organic progression. Multiuse community space and the exciting possibility of including the new City Hall bring more fun and culture into a vibrant mix that will make public space into public place.

Accessibility

Another fundamental element to our developments is accessibility. Our buildings provide the highest level of accessibility, to encourage the open, public engagement of all ages and physical abilities. Through innovative unit design, we want to enable extended families to live in close proximity, allowing for the care of elders or the physically challenged without compromising privacy and dignity.

Environmental Sustainability

Core to the identity of Lakeview Heights is a strong sense of environmental responsibility. The Village is designed to reduce its impact on the surrounding world on several levels. Innovative mechanical systems that will allow heat from the proposed server room to be captured and used to supplement the heating system in the development. Could potentially result in significant cost savings by reducing reliance on natural gas. This is made possible by the fact that a regional Telus fiber optic hub is on the property. All village heating requirements will be met with recycled heat from this system, which may also provide enough heat to drive frost from the local vineyards.
